Only 57 Z7D Camaros were built in 2002, and this is #31. The RPO code Z7D was used for the special 35th Anniversary wheels and other options on the SS convertible. Chevy had never done a special RPO code prior to this for the Brickyard 400 and all but one of the 57 cars were built the same day. The first car was built in April as a "pilot" and was immediately stripped and put on the Camaro Legends Tour. These cars had the Brickyard 400 decals installed at Indianapolis. Scott Settlemire ordered all 57 Z7D Camaros to be built all on the same day, and because 2002 was the last year of the fourth-generation Camaro, Chevrolet felt it was important to do a special Camaro for the 2002 Brickyard 400. This Camaro is powered by a 5.7-liter V8 engine mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission with just over 10,000 original miles. It is in concours condition with a spotless engine compartment. This car has never seen rain, wet pavement or a hose. All the original decals are in excellent shape. The original Window Sticker is signed by Terry Labonte, the special license plate issued by the State of Indiana (#431) is on the car, plus both original key fobs. This car is as clean and new as is it was on the dealer's showroom floor. The wax markings are still on the engine compartment pillars from the factory.

2002 Chevrolet Camaro SS Z7D Convertible...Let’s talk rare — only 57 Z7D Camaro's were built in 2002. The RPO code Z7D was used to force the 35th anniversary wheels and other options on to the SS convertible. Chevy had never done a special RPO code prior to this for the Brickyard 400 thus, these cars are somewhat unique and because collectors have all it will be hard to do a 'knockoff' - the code shows up on the window label and also in the build manifest sticker on the driver's door. All but one of the 57 cars were built the sameday... The first car was actually built in April as a "pilot" and was immediately striped and put on the Camaro Legends Tour. These cars had the Brickyard 400 decals installed at Indianapolis. Scott Settlemire ordered all 57 Z7D Camaros to be built all on the same day. Because 2002 was the last year of the 4th Gen Camaro, Chevrolet felt it was important to do a special Camaro for the 2002 Brickyard 400.
Thus, a limited number of "special" Camaro SS convertibles were commissioned. The original intent was to offer the two-tone Ebony/Pewter Leather interior from the Anniversary car however, it would not have been appropriate to put the 35th Anniversary Badge on the seats. A two-tone seat without the badging would have required new part numbers which was a 'no-no' with engineering and the assembly plant. However the 35th Anniversary wheels did make the cut - the 17" painted/machine finish aluminum wheel - and assigned that content to a new RPO code, "Z7D" which was then given the name "Brickyard 400 Package."57 of these cars were built. All but 5 of them had Automatic transmissions, the other 5 of course had 6-speeds and all the six-speeds were delivered to VIPs.
All of these cars were built to be used at the 2002 Brick Yard 400. The first !44 were assigned to drivers based on their qualifying position. This is unit#31 and was assigned to Terry Labonte. These cars were used for pre-race activities and various parades — they were not raced. After the Brickyard weekend they were distributed to Chevrolet dealerships across the North Central Region. This Camarohas5346 original miles on it and is in concourse condition with a spotless undercarriage and engine compartment. This car has never seen rain, wet pavement or a hose. All of the original decals are in excellent shape. The original window sticker is signed by Terry Labonte, the special license plate issued by the State of Indiana, #431, is on the car, plus both original key fobs (the trunk keys have not had the code blanks punched out) all go with the car. This car is as clean and new as is it was onthe dealer’s showroom floor. The wax markings are still on the engine compartment pillars from the factory.
